Sims & Sons Electric and Plumbing

I decided to steam some clothes on a Sunday evening- fast forward the breaker shorted and we lost electricity to all 3 bedrooms. I called 4 different electricians, and Sims & Sons were the only ones to call back, and immediately! They came that day, fixed the issue SO quickly, and identified the major electrical issues affecting our condo. A few weeks later they came back, spent about 9 hours rewiring things (4 workers too!) and I can tell you they did a fantastic job. Darrell is so friendly, knowledgeable, and just a great honest guy. Dylan and the rest of the team were amazing too, they even worked around my daughter's nap schedule. In addition, they fixed some minor things they came across that had been poorly done by other workers in the past. Darrell gave us recommendations for a few other projects too. Highly highly recommend. I don't want any more electrical issues, but Darrell and his team will be our go-to should we need anything!

Our experience with Sims and Sons was mixed. They came out to give an estimate on an issue where we lost power to our garage after getting a new furnace. Getting them to provide an estimated arrival time was a challenge, as their policy was to only give an ETA on the Friday night before a Saturday visit. I had to text them at 9PM to request confirmation. First visit, an estimate, was free, though the electrician seemed to indicate that some major work was needed. They gave us an estimate of $200 (min. service fee)-$750 and 3-5 hours for the work. He was kind and professional. When they arrived for the work, they found a separate breaker in the garage we didn’t know existed, and (embarrassingly for us) flipped it within 5 minutes. The electrician even noted that they should’ve caught that the first time out. I wrote a professionally worded response thanking them for their time and coming out twice, but also expressing our frustration and asked if they would be willing to adjust the service fee for this issue. Their response, which started professional and honest, ended rude and unnecessary: “Should we have taken longer and then charged you more would that have been better?” Maybe we were jerks to ask, but it was unnecessarily rude.

Andy and Jay installed two new bathroom vents in my condo to replace some very old units. One of the vents was much more complicated than expected but they did an outstanding job changing course when needed to get the job done. I’ll be using these folks for any future electric and plumbing work I need help with. These folks are the real deal—you are getting quality work. They arrived on site a little early, which was great, and were more than willing to wait while I got things ready for them. Very flexible to work with. Easy to book them. Excellent work.

I can't recommend Darrell enough. He's honest, hardworking and personable - to say nothing about the quality of the work. We started with getting quotes for installing bidets and bathroom fans. Darrell was the only one to come out and inspect the house before giving us a quote. We ended up hiring him for a whole home lighting project. 14 can lights and replacing the trims on 20 more, 2 ceiling fans, 3 bathroom fans, a smart doorbell, and 6 outlets. There were issues (there always are) and every time Darrell immediately let me know, and told me how he was going to fix it. His employees are great. Friendly and they cleaned up after well. His price is very fair. His quote was much lower than other companies. The job went long, but the price never went up. I will be recommending him to friends and family, and I will be contacting him first for any future projects. UPDATE 05/08/24: We had Darrell in to do some custom under cabinet lighting and all I can say is WOW. Completely changed our kitchen. As always, the work was top notch, well priced, and completed in a timely manner. Best electrician in the city.

Sims and sons did a fantastic job repairing my electrical connection to my garage. It was a complicated job which they expertly navigated. They were prompt, responsive, and considerate. I would recommend them without qualification

Darrell was great! Came out to give an estimate for installing an EV charger in my garage. Showed me my options and was at the same price point as my other estimates, but included a couple of extras the others did not. Was available to start right away and did a fast, but very thorough and professional installation. Could not be happier with the service and quality. Will use again in the future!

We had both plumbing and electrical done in our home with Sims & Sons. A few small electrical things were done easily and promptly and our plumbing needs (3 new toilets, haul away, and a new full shower set) was done thoroughly. Charles, our main plumber, was incredible. Thoughtful and transparent, he talked us through the entire process anytime there was a decision to be made or something unexpected. We could sense he really cared about his work and was going to take the time to make sure it was done right. We are very happy with the results and would highly suggest Charles and staff for your home’s needs. Our only quibble: scheduling. It was TERRIBLY challenging to get the office to respond with our quote and to then schedule once we received the quote. Be vigilant and they will get back to you eventually. It took us a month from quote until service even though we know they had openings the week after our estimate. Hoping they can address the office issues in the future for easier customer service and acquisition.

I needed my garbage disposal fixed and looked around nearby and found Andy and Darrell. I explained what I thought the issue was and they told me what I needed supply wise and to call when I got the replacement part (love that they didn't try and charge me extra!). I called and they came the next day, fixed it in 25 minutes! Would definitely call them again!
